Atlanta pickup basketball FAQ

Where can I play pickup basketball in Atlanta?

Atlanta's pickup basketball happens in two places: outdoor city park courts and indoor rec-center gyms. Piedmont Park, Historic Fourth Ward Park and Chastain Park carry the outdoor runs. Indoor, look at Central Park Recreation Center, Rosel Fann and the C.T. Martin Natatorium & Recreation Center. The Pickup app shows which of them has a run tonight.

Are Atlanta's public basketball courts free?

Most outdoor courts in Atlanta parks are free and open during park hours — no reservation, no fee. Indoor gyms are different: city and county rec centers usually ask for a membership or a day pass, and YMCA gyms require membership or a guest pass. Each court page here lists whether it's free or paid.

What are the best indoor basketball courts in Atlanta?

For hardwood, the C.T. Martin Natatorium & Recreation Center in Adamsville has two full courts and hosts leagues. Decatur Family YMCA and Lucky Shoals Park Gym in Norcross both run four hoops. Inside the city, Central Park Recreation Center in Old Fourth Ward and Rosel Fann in Lakewood are free city gyms with posted open-gym hours.

When do pickup games usually happen in Atlanta?

Weeknight runs start around 6 to 9 PM once people are off work, and weekend mornings fill up between 9 AM and noon. Outdoor courts without lights are daylight only, so they empty out early in winter. Organizers post exact start times in the Pickup app so you're not driving to an empty gym.
