Every Published Open-Gym Basketball Time and Price in Metro Atlanta
October 8, 2026 · Pickup
If you want the one-paragraph version of this, we have it: where can I play open gym basketball in Atlanta?. This is the long version — every venue in the metro that publishes an actual basketball time, an actual price, or both, with the schedule as the gym itself words it. It is a short list, and that is the point.
Every time and price below comes from the venue's own website, checked between 17 and 22 September 2026 and re-checked 6 October 2026. Gyms change schedules for leagues, rentals and holidays, so treat this as where to start, not a promise.
Most "open gym in Atlanta" searches end on a Planet Fitness page or a Yelp list. That doesn't help if you want to hoop tonight. So here is a shorter list: only gyms that publish a basketball time, a price, or both. If a venue wouldn't commit to hours in writing, we say so.
Decatur: the best-documented open gym in the metro
The City of Decatur runs open gym at three rec centers, and posts a separate basketball schedule for two of them.
- Ebster Recreation Center, 105 Electric Ave. Adult basketball Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am–2pm, Saturdays 10am–1pm, Sundays 3–5:45pm.
- Oakhurst Recreation Center, 450 East Lake Dr. Thursdays 7–9pm, Saturdays noon–2pm, Sundays 3–6pm. It's the only weeknight evening slot Decatur publishes.
- Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore St. Worth being exact about this one, because it is easy to get wrong. The city does publish an open-gym schedule for this building, and the adult sessions on it are table tennis and volleyball. Basketball appears only in the programme-wide description that sits above the schedule, not in this gym's own hours. If you want basketball in Decatur, Ebster and Oakhurst are the two that publish it. Call 404-377-0494 before assuming otherwise.
Cost: $5 a session for Decatur residents, $10 for everyone else. A monthly pass is $25 for residents or $50 for non-residents, and it covers all three gyms. If you play more than five times a month as a non-resident, the pass wins.
Teen and youth open gym at Ebster and Oakhurst is free on school-day afternoons.
Brookhaven: free, but check the calendar
Brookhaven runs free supervised drop-in at two community centers: Youth Basketball Drop-In, Adult Basketball Drop-In and Adult Basketball Open Runs.
- Briarwood Park & Community Center, 2235 Briarwood Way NE. 404-637-0510.
- Lynwood Park & Community Center, 3360 Osborne Rd NE. 404-637-0542.
The catch: Brookhaven posts times on a calendar that changes every month, not as fixed weekly hours. You sign in at the front desk. The city also warns that weekend reservations can cut into open gym, so Saturday is the day to call ahead.
Free and city-run makes this the best deal inside the Perimeter, if the calendar lines up for you.
Gwinnett County: the cheapest paid run around
Gwinnett County runs open gym during regular operating hours at its gyms. Admission is $2.25 for adults 18–49 and $1.25 for under-18s and anyone 50 or older. Non-Gwinnett residents add $2. You can check out a ball at the desk or bring your own.
The county doesn't publish a basketball-only schedule. It says times vary by day and facility, so call the gym. County gyms in our directory include Best Friend Park Gym in Norcross, Rhodes Jordan Park Gym in Lawrenceville, Lenora Park Gym in Snellville, George Pierce Park in Suwanee and Bogan Park in Buford.
Even as a non-resident, $4.25 is less than any other per-visit price on this list.
Roswell: two open days, no guarantee
- Hembree Park Recreation Center, 850 Hembree Rd. The city lists basketball open play Mondays and Wednesdays, 10am–8pm. Call (770) 569-9746 to confirm.
- East Roswell Recreation Center, 9000 Fouts Rd. Open play runs on a schedule the city posts as a separate PDF. Call (770) 594-6134.
Roswell says in writing that open play isn't guaranteed at either gym. Both are closed Sundays.
Church gyms that publish times
Some of the best indoor runs in the metro are in church gyms. Most don't post anything. These three do.
- Kennesaw First Baptist Church, 2958 North Main St, Kennesaw. A men's run Monday nights 6:30–9pm in the Gathering Center, open to men 16 and older at any skill level. The church listed the fall run as starting Monday, September 28, so it is already underway — but confirm the current week before driving over.
- Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta. The Activities Center gym is open to the public Monday–Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–2pm, closed Sunday. The church says hours shift around ministry events and posts a weekly schedule, so check it before you drive over.
- Berean Christian Church, KBL Family Life Center, 2201 Young Rd, Stone Mountain. A regulation court with six goals, open Monday–Friday 7am–8pm. It's membership-based: $15 a month for adults 18–54, plus a $10 registration fee for non-members. No basketball-only hours are published.
One private option
BRXND Sportsplex, 100 Loyola Dr SW, runs open runs on Sundays for $10 a session. It doesn't publish a start time, so call before you go.
What about City of Atlanta rec centers?
Atlanta Parks & Recreation runs rec centers across the city, and many have gyms. But the city's Find a Recreation Center page lists only building hours and phone numbers. It doesn't list open-gym times or adult prices. Its adult basketball page covers team leagues, not drop-in.
That doesn't mean there's no run. It means you have to call the center. Our Atlanta court directory lists every city rec center we track, with its address and a map.
Worth the drive
Up in Hall County, First Baptist Church Gainesville runs midday basketball Mondays and Wednesdays, 11am–3pm. Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville normally runs open gym Sundays 2–7pm and basketball-only Mondays 4–9pm, but the church paused basketball from September 7 and lists a restart on November 2. Through October, Monday there is not a basketball night.
Before you go
- Call. Most venues on this list say in writing that times can change. A 30-second call beats a 40-minute drive to a gym booked for a volleyball tournament.
- Weekends are the riskiest. Rentals and leagues often claim weekend gym time. Brookhaven says so outright.
- Resident pricing is real money. Decatur charges non-residents double. Gwinnett adds $2. Ask the front desk what counts as proof of residency.
- Check the age rules. Some slots are youth or teen only, and the Kennesaw run is men 16 and older.
Want the full list? Filter the court directory to gyms with open-gym times. We add venues as they publish schedules. If your gym runs open basketball and we don't have it, email support@playpickup.app with the link to its schedule.
And if there's no run where you are, start one. That's what the Pickup app is for.
