Where can I play indoor basketball in Atlanta?
Indoor basketball in metro Atlanta lives in four places: city and county rec centers, church family-life centers, school gyms rented by the hour, and private training facilities. We track 1,221 indoor gyms across Georgia. The ones you can walk into without booking first are rec centers and a short list of church gyms — everything else needs a reservation.

The four kinds of indoor gym
Metro Atlanta has a lot of indoor basketball. What it does not have is one place that tells you which doors open. Here is how the supply actually breaks down across the 1,221 indoor gyms we track statewide.
Rec centers — 171 of them. This is the walk-in category. City and county recreation centers run open gym, usually for a small fee, and a handful publish their times: Ebster and Oakhurst in Decatur, Bill Johnson and Hembree Park in Roswell, Kennesaw Recreation Center, Acworth Community Center, Kedron Fieldhouse in Peachtree City, and the Gwinnett County gyms. Inside the city of Atlanta, rec centers have gyms but the city publishes no open-gym hours, so you call.
Church gyms — 93 of them. Underrated and often the best floor in the neighbourhood. Three publish real access:
- Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Marietta — the Activities Center gym is open to the public Monday–Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–2pm, closed Sunday. Hours shift around ministry events.
- Kennesaw First Baptist Church — a men's run Monday nights 6:30–9pm, open to men 16 and over at any skill level.
- Berean Christian Church, KBL Family Life Center, Stone Mountain — a regulation court with six goals, Monday–Friday 7am–8pm, membership-based at $15 a month.
The other 90 do not publish times. Most will tell you over the phone.
School gyms — 742 of them. This is the largest block by far, and none of it is drop-in. School gyms across Georgia rent by the hour through their district's facility-use portal. Colleges, YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs and private facilities — 206 between them. College rec centers are typically students and members only. YMCA branches need a membership. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta rents several of its gyms through one central page. BRXND Sportsplex in Atlanta runs $10 Sunday open runs.
Where the indoor supply actually is
Indoor gyms are not spread evenly. Of the metro cities we cover, Atlanta has 134 indoor venues, Marietta 46, Decatur 31, Lawrenceville 20, Douglasville 18, Woodstock 17, Kennesaw 16, Stone Mountain 14 and Alpharetta 14. If you are in the northern arc, you have more indoor options than the directory's Atlanta count suggests — they are just in the next city over.
The honest caveat
We list a gym whether or not it publishes a schedule, because a gym you have to call about is still a gym. But we never invent one. Where a venue does not say what its hours or prices are, the page says so and gives you the address and the source. Where it does, we carry its own wording and its own caveats through, because most cities state plainly that open play is not guaranteed.
