Where can I play basketball in Marietta, GA?

Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center is the only Marietta gym with open play basketball on a published rate: $2 a visit, $1 under 18, or $50 a year for Cobb County residents. Johnson Ferry Baptist Church opens its gym to the public on weekdays. Cobb's Fullers, Milford and Fair Oaks centers have gyms but post no schedule.

Start at Custer Park

Custer Park Sports & Fitness Center, 545 Kenneth E Marcus Way, is the City of Marietta's own 26,000-square-foot sports and fitness center, and it is the one place in town where the city publishes both an open play gym and the price of getting in.

  • Open play: $2 per visit for ages 19 and up, $1 for 18 and under. Or $50 a year for unlimited open play if you live in Cobb County — residency here is county-wide, not city limits.
  • Building hours: Mon–Fri 5:30am–9pm, Sat 8am–8pm, Sun 1–7pm.
  • Women's 5v5 drop-in: ages 21 and up, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7–9pm, $2 a day, 30 spots a day first come first served. 770-794-5637.
  • Everyone entering needs a Fit Pass, a day pass, or to be signed in as a guest.

Two honest caveats. The gym is an open play gym shared with volleyball and badminton/pickleball, and the city doesn't publish a dedicated adult men's or co-ed basketball slot — court time moves with programming, so call (770) 794-5630 before you drive over. And the city never states how many courts the building has; its own rental package prices a double gym, a single gym and a half single, which points to one divisible double court.

The church gym that's actually open

Johnson Ferry Baptist Church opens its Activities Center gym to the public Monday–Friday 9am–6pm and Saturday 9am–2pm, closed Sunday. The church notes hours may vary around ministry events, so treat them as typical rather than guaranteed. Among the eighty-odd church gyms we list in metro Atlanta, this is one of a handful that says plainly an outsider can come in.

Marietta has a dense cluster of other church and parish gyms that host league play but publish nothing about open access — Mt. Bethel UMC, Due West UMC, Marietta First UMC, St. Ann, St. Joseph, Transfiguration, GraceLife, Eastside Church and Roswell Street Baptist. Each one is a real gym; each one needs a phone call.

Cobb County rec centers

Three county centers in Marietta have gyms:

Cobb County PARKS publishes a recreation fee schedule rather than free admission, and does not put its drop-in times online. Ask the center what applies, or call the recreation program manager on 770-528-8845. Just over the line in Austell, South Cobb Recreation Center is a 21,000 sq ft center with a gym, a posted open gym schedule and adult leagues.

Outdoor courts

If you'd rather play outside, Marietta and the surrounding county have free public courts at Shaw Park (courts alongside softball, tennis and eight pickleball courts), Sewell Park (daytime only) and Fair Oaks Park.

Renting a gym in Marietta

If you want a guaranteed floor for a league, a practice or a private run, Marietta is one of the cheaper places in the metro to rent one — but read the minimums, because the hourly rate is never the bill.

Custer Park, booked in person or by email with an approved agreement and deposit (city reservation package, rev. 22 Jan 2026):

| What | Youth, 75%+ Cobb | 50%+ Cobb | Non-resident | Commercial | |---|---|---|---|---| | Double gymnasium, per hour | $100 | $150 | $200 | $250 | | Single gym, practices only | $25 | $30 | $50 | — | | Half single gym | $15 | $20 | $35 | — |

The double gym carries a 4-hour minimum plus a refundable $250 deposit, and is capped at three days a week. The single gym is sporting practices only, 1-hour minimum and 2-hour maximum per team per day, $50 deposit. Cobb-based non-profits and service clubs pay $125/hour on the double gym. Renters need $1,000,000 combined-single-limit liability insurance naming the City as additional insured, can't charge admission or take donations during a rental without prior agreement, and lose the deposit on a cancellation inside seven business days.

That single-gym practice rate — $25 an hour with a one-hour minimum for a Cobb youth group — is the cheapest guaranteed indoor hour we have found anywhere in metro Atlanta.

School gyms. Marietta City Schools gyms — including Marietta High School, Marietta Middle School and the 6th Grade Academy — are booked through the district's FlowPath system. Cobb County School District gyms in Marietta, which is most of the rest (Walton, Wheeler, Lassiter, Pope, Kell, Sprayberry, Osborne and a dozen middle schools), go through Cobb County School District Venue Management. Cobb's FY2027 schedule prices a gym practice court at $50/hour standard, $15 non-profit, with a 4-hour-per-day minimum, a custodian at $40/hour, supervision at $44, security at $110 where required, billing that starts 30 minutes before you arrive, and applications four weeks ahead.

Private floors. Next Play 360 is an indoor basketball training facility with courts, booked directly. The McCleskey-East Cobb and Northeast Cobb YMCAs and the James T. Anderson Boys & Girls Club all have gyms; BGCMA rents club gyms to outside groups through its facility rental inquiry form.

Everything on this page comes from the City of Marietta, Cobb County, the school districts or the venue itself, with the fee schedule's own date attached. Where a venue publishes nothing, this page says so instead of filling the gap.
