Where can I play basketball in Decatur, GA?

The three city rec centers

The City of Decatur is the rare metro government that publishes an actual basketball schedule, not just building hours.

Ebster Recreation Center, 105 Electric Ave. Adult open gym basketball Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am–2pm, Saturdays 10am–1pm, Sundays 3–5:45pm. Free teen and youth open gym runs on school-day afternoons.

Oakhurst Recreation Center, 450 East Lake Dr. Thursdays 7–9pm, Saturdays noon–2pm, Sundays 3–6pm. That Thursday evening slot is the only published weeknight adult run in the city, so expect it to be full.

Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore St. Open gym here includes pickup basketball, but the city does not list fixed basketball hours. Call 404-377-0494 before you go.

Cost: $5 a visit for City of Decatur residents, $10 for non-residents. A monthly pass is $25 resident or $50 non-resident and covers all three gyms. Past five visits a month, the pass is the cheaper option.

Outdoors

McKoy Park at 135 Superior Ave has Decatur's public outdoor court. We have not confirmed whether it is lit, so treat it as a daylight run until you have seen it yourself.

The DeKalb centers with a Decatur address

A Decatur mailing address covers a lot of unincorporated DeKalb County, and several county rec centers sit inside it: Exchange on Columbia Dr, Mason Mill on McConnell Dr, Midway on Midway Rd and N.H. Scott on Tilson Rd. These are DeKalb County facilities, not City of Decatur ones, so the Decatur resident rate does not apply and the county does not publish a basketball schedule for them. Call before you drive.

Church and college gyms

St. Thomas More Catholic Church on W Ponce de Leon, Briarlake Baptist on LaVista Rd, Green Forest Baptist on Rainbow Dr and Beulah Missionary Baptist on Clifton Springs Rd all have gyms. None publishes open-gym hours; Beulah's is a rental facility. Agnes Scott College has the Woodruff Physical Activities Building on East College Ave, and Georgia State's Perimeter College Decatur campus has a gym on Panthersville Rd — both are primarily for students and members.
