Where can I play basketball during the day on a weekday in Atlanta?
Five metro gyms publish weekday daytime basketball: Dunbar Recreation Center, Tuesday to Thursday 10am-2pm, free; Kennesaw Recreation Center, 7:00-8:45am daily on its dated open-play calendar; Ebster in Decatur, Tuesday and Thursday 10am-2pm, $5 residents; Hembree Park in Roswell, Monday and Wednesday 10am-8pm, $4 residents; and First Baptist Gainesville, Monday and Wednesday 11am-3pm. Several more run open play all day during building hours.

Daytime is the hardest run to find, and the easiest to get a court at
Almost every published pickup schedule in this metro is an evening schedule, because almost everyone works. If your hours are different — shift work, a remote day, a Tuesday off, school holidays, retirement — the mid-day court is the least contested one in Atlanta. The problem is that almost nobody publishes mid-day times.
These do.
The five gyms with a published weekday daytime schedule
Dunbar Recreation Center, 477 Windsor Street SW, Atlanta. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00am-2:00pm. Ages 18+. Free. The City of Atlanta calls it "Hoops at Dunbar" and describes it as Free Play Basketball for Adults. The listing's header and description give slightly different dates, so call ahead. This is the only free weekday-daytime adult session we have found in the city.
Ebster Recreation Center, 105 Electric Ave, Decatur. Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00am-2:00pm. $5 for City of Decatur residents, $10 for non-residents — or $25 a month ($50 non-resident) for unlimited open gym across all three Decatur centers. Ebster also runs Saturdays 10am-1pm and Sundays 3:00-5:45pm.
Hembree Park Recreation Center, 850 Hembree Rd, Roswell. Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00am-8:00pm — the widest published daytime block in the metro. $4 for Roswell residents, $6 for non-residents, cash only. The city says open play is not guaranteed, so call (770) 569-9746.
Kennesaw Recreation Center, 2663 Jolly Springs Dr, Kennesaw. The city publishes a dated daily open-play calendar on the center's own venue page instead of fixed weekly hours, and basketball sits in the early morning: for 27-30 October 2026 it listed 7:00-8:45am every morning, plus 2:30-8:45pm on the 27th, 29th and 30th. Open play needs a Recreation Center membership - $20 a year for Cobb County residents, $30 non-resident, $10 with a student ID - which makes it the cheapest unlimited daytime access in the metro. Under-15s need a guardian present. Hours move with programming, so call 678-385-0165.
First Baptist Church Gainesville (Family Life Center). Monday and Wednesday, 11:00am-3:00pm. Basketball is also available Saturdays by reservation, two hours maximum. A long drive from the city, but it is a real published mid-day run.
The gyms that are simply open all day
These do not publish a basketball-specific timetable, but the gym is open and open play runs during building hours. Call first — court time moves with programming.
| Venue | Weekday hours | Cost | | --- | --- | --- | | Custer Park, Marietta | Mon-Fri 5:30am-9:00pm | $2 (19+), $1 under 18 | | E Center, Sugar Hill | Mon-Sat 7:00am-9:00pm | $2 per person | | Johnson Ferry Baptist, Marietta | Mon-Fri 9:00am-6:00pm | Open to the public | | Berean Christian Church, Stone Mountain | Mon-Fri 7:00am-8:00pm | $15/month membership | | Gwinnett County's six gyms | Building hours, varies by gym | $2.25 adults 18-49 |
Custer Park opens at 5:30am, which makes it the earliest published court in the metro. The E Center's Monday-to-Saturday 7:00am-9:00pm block at $2 is the widest published open-play window we have found anywhere in Georgia.
What to expect at 11am on a Tuesday
Fewer people, shorter waits, and a different crowd than the 7pm run — older, more regulars, less full-court. At the free and $2 gyms you may be running 3-on-3 or shooting alone for the first half hour. That is the trade for never waiting four games to get on.
Outdoor park courts are also quiet mid-day and cost nothing; they are all in the directory.
